The Story Behind the Canvas: African Art as Cultural Memory

Celebrate Black History Month at Ovico Gallery with a thoughtfully curated art experience centered on African art as cultural memory and storytelling.
Join us Saturday, February 7 (4–7 PM) and Sunday, February 8 (2–5 PM) for an immersive gallery event featuring works by Chike Onuorah, Nigerian contemporary artist. Guests will be guided through the exhibition with insight into the stories, symbols, and lived experiences reflected in the artwork—offering a deeper understanding of how African artists preserve history, tradition, and identity through visual expression.
The evening will be accompanied by live music from guitar sensation Dami Hendrix, along with drinks, cocktails and light bites in an intimate gallery setting.
